Courthouse Steps Zine

Posted by Taylor Krz on

I'm so excited to announce that I am an AGF Sewcialite! I will be working with Art Gallery Fabrics to share my knowledge, skills, and passion for quilting alongside 9 other fabulous creators for the next year.

The Nostalgia Bundle is a Toad & Sew x Art Gallery Fabrics exclusive fat quarter bundle that brings the colors of your past to the present. This bundle includes 16 fat quarters from the Pure Solids line that represents the heart and soul of Toad & Sew.

If you're a retailer and interested in carrying the bundle, you can pre-order it from Art Gallery Fabrics.

WHAT IS A ZINE?

Definition according to Merriam-Webster:

Short for: MAGAZINE

especially : a noncommercial often homemade or online publication usually devoted to specialized and often unconventional subject matter

WHY A ZINE?

The Nostalgia bundle was created to remind you of a different, but deeply familiar era in your life. It may remind you of your Grandma’s tableware from the 60s, band posters from the 70s, your scrunchies and leggings from the ’80s, or even the TV shows you watched in the 90s! You can morph these rich, saturated tones back to a magical moment you would like to encapsulate forever. It was made to honor both your past and future memories, leaving you with a souvenir for your life!

For me that goes hand in hand with arts and crafts, and creating things out of limited supplies. There is something very rudimentary about a zine - you can print, cut, and fold together to create your own little booklet! Bonus: it fits perfectly under the sleeve of the bundle!

If you’ve never made a zine before - it may be a little tricky to get it to fold properly. Here is a quick tutorial followed by some guidelines to help you get started!

  1. Print the PDF at 100% scale in full color at your printer's highest quality setting (if possible). Print on 8.5” x 11” letter size paper.
  2. Trim to 8” x 10.5” by cutting out along the trim line. The area in yellow should be completely removed!

  3. Follow folding instructions:

PATTERN LAYOUTS

The courthouse steps zine walks you through how to cut (16) FQs + (1) accent tone. It shows you how to make a courthouse steps block and then offers three different layouts you can use! The fun thing about courthouse steps is that they have endless possibilities! These layouts are only a starting point for you to create your own.
