Earlier this week, we had a super fun live session on Instagram where we explored these vibrant palettes together. In celebration of Week 1 of the Cascade Bloom Sew Along, I challenged myself to use all 70 colors included in the Ruby and Bee solids fabric line to show off fabric pulls for my Cascade Bloom quilt. I managed to pull together 12 fabric pulls out of these fabric swatch cards, which isn't exactly the full collection, but it's close enough, right? Ha! I'm so excited to share all twelve of them with you here.
The Color Palettes
I know I could just show you a picture of all 12 of them together, but honestly each one is pretty fantastic on its own. So I'm going to highlight each solid fabric color palette below so you can get a better look at these pretty colors!
Watermelon Crunch
-
Colors: Shell Pink, Glow, Avocado, Evergreen, Kelp
I'm absolutely in love with the Watermelon Crunch palette! This vibrant set of colors would be perfect for capturing the essence of summer. Shell Pink and Glow bring the sweet, juicy hues of watermelon slices, while Avocado, Evergreen, and Kelp add the refreshing green tones of summer foliage. This palette is bursting with energy and life, making it ideal for projects that you want to feel fresh and invigorating. Picture a picnic quilt, a bright table runner, or a fun tote bag to carry all your summer essentials!
The Wyldwood Creative
-
Colors: Pearl, Pool, Turmeric, China Blue, Ink
Inspired by my dear friends over at Wyldwood Creative, this palette features their signature brand colors. Wyldwood Creative is a modern fabric store that offers a welcoming space for all creative people, and this palette captures that spirit perfectly. Pearl and Pool provide a soft, inviting base, while Turmeric and China Blue add vibrant pops of color. Ink ties everything together with a deep, grounding tone. This palette is ideal for projects that blend tradition with a touch of the unexpected, creating quilts that are both modern and heartwarming. Picture a quilt that feels like a creative journey, celebrating the artistry and community that Wyldwood Creative embodies.
The Urban Dwell
-
Colors: Midnight, Stormy, Mushroom, Limeade, Dove
Inspired by my talented friend Ashelyn, the quilt pattern designer of
Urban Dwell Studio, this palette is a perfect reflection of her bold and creative style. Ashelyn loves using dark colors and expertly mixes black and white tones into her designs, always adding a pop of bright yellow or lime green for a striking effect.
Midnight and
Stormy provide a deep, dramatic base, while
Mushroom and
Dove add softer, neutral tones. The vibrant
Limeade injects that signature pop of brightness. This palette is ideal for improv quilts, where creativity knows no bounds. Imagine quilts that are as inspiring and unique as Ashelyn’s creations, each one a testament to the beauty of spontaneous artistry.
The Kindred Quilt Co
-
Colors: Vanilla Custard, Daffodil, Mustard Seed, Posy, Perfect Pink
Inspired by my wonderful friend Christina, the quilt pattern designer of
Kindred Quilt Co, this palette captures her love for bright, cheerful colors and floral prints. Christina's designs are known for their vibrant hues and joyful spirit, often featuring scrappy quilts that just make you smile.
Vanilla Custard and
Daffodil provide a soft, sunny base, while
Mustard Seed adds a touch of warmth.
Posy and
Perfect Pink bring in the bright, happy pinks that Christina loves. This palette is perfect for creating quilts that radiate happiness and charm. Imagine a quilt that feels like a burst of sunshine and a field of flowers, bringing a touch of joy to any room.
The Full Moon Fabric
-
Colors: Sea Glass, Rain Cloud, Marigold, Wisteria, Cornflower
Inspired by my fabulous friend Tara, the owner of the online fabric store
Full Moon Fabric Co, this palette captures her knack for creating the most stunning quilt kits. Tara has a talent for putting together funky and unexpected color combinations, and this palette is no exception.
Sea Glass and
Rain Cloud provide a cool, calming base, while
Marigold adds a vibrant splash of orange—my absolute favorite color!
Wisteria and
Cornflower bring in beautiful shades of blue and purple, completing the palette with a perfect balance of warmth and coolness. This combination is ideal for quilts that are bold, fun, and full of personality. Imagine a quilt that stands out with its unique color mix, making a statement in any room.
Strawberry Rhubarb Pie
-
Colors: Truffle, Field Mouse, Poppy, Fairy Floss, Wisp This is the first one on the list that was named with the help of everyone who joined the Instagram live session! This delightful mix of colors highlights my favorite combination of orange-red and brown, which you'll notice appears a few times in these palettes. Truffle and Field Mouse provide rich, earthy tones, while Poppy and Fairy Floss add vibrant splashes of red and pink. Wisp ties it all together with a light, airy touch. This palette is perfect for creating quilts that are warm and inviting, with a pop of color that keeps things interesting. What other food does this palette remind you of? There were so many delicious names thrown out during the live session—I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Sherbert Sundae
-
Colors: Cream Puff, Matcha, Vervain, Delphinium, Wild Rose
When this palette came together, I couldn’t stop thinking about ice cream! Specifically, it reminded me of Neapolitan ice cream, but with a delightful twist that leaned more towards sherbet.
Cream Puff and
Matcha provide a soft, creamy base, while
Vervain adds a hint of gentle lavender.
Delphinium brings in a vibrant pop of orange, and
Wild Rose ties it all together with a rich, rosy hue. This palette features my favorite color combination of orange and brown once again, which just makes my heart sing! This combination is perfect for creating quilts that are playful and vibrant, bringing a touch of whimsy to any project.
Sea Glass
-
Colors: Marine Layer, Minty, Agave, Provence Blue, Slate
When we got to this point in the remaining colors, I ended up combining these blues and greens together on a whim. I typically don't go for a full monochromatic color palette in my quilts, but this one actually works really well! The soothing tones of
Marine Layer and
Minty blend beautifully with the deeper hues of
Agave,
Provence Blue, and
Slate. The name "Baltimore Aquarium" was thrown around because someone mentioned it looked like the colors of an aquarium, but I decided to go with something a bit less specific. This palette captures the serene, calming essence of sea glass, making it perfect for projects that evoke the tranquility of the ocean.
New Years Kiss
-
Colors: Night Sky, Majorelle Blue, Hibiscus, Pumpkin, Blush
This color palette is reminiscent of the one I used in the cover quilt for my
New Years Kiss quilt pattern, but with a bit more vibrancy. The deep, rich tones of
Night Sky and
Majorelle Blue provide a stunning backdrop, while
Hibiscus and
Pumpkin add a lively pop of color.
Blush ties everything together with a soft, warm touch. This combination is not only perfect for capturing the celebratory spirit of a New Year’s kiss but also works beautifully as a Full Moon Fabric Co color palette. I'm pretty sure Tara has made a quilt with these colors before, which speaks to their versatile charm and festive vibe. These colors are ideal for creating quilts that are bold, fun, and full of life!
Joshua Tree
-
Colors: Aster, Russet, Mandarin, Creamsicle, Dusk
This palette instantly reminded us all of a desert sunset, capturing the warm, earthy tones and the soft, pastel hues of the evening sky.
Aster provides a cool, calming blue, while
Russet and
Mandarin bring in the rich, warm colors of the desert landscape.
Creamsicle adds a soft orange, reminiscent of the fading sunlight, and
Dusk ties everything together with a gentle lavender. This palette is another, and the final, instance of my favorite color combination of orange and brown.
Russet is one of my absolute favorites from the entire Ruby and Bee fabric collection, and it shines beautifully in this mix. The colors in this palette create a harmonious blend that brings a touch of desert magic to any quilt project.
Dandelion Field
-
Colors: Wintergreen, Pasture, Starling, Lemonade, Sweet Cream
This palette instantly made me think of a green field of flowers. The fresh, vibrant tones of
Wintergreen and
Pasture evoke the lushness of a grassy meadow, while
Starling and
Lemonade bring in the bright, cheerful colors of spring blooms.
Sweet Cream adds a soft, warm touch to balance the palette. If you threw in a pink or purple, it could work beautifully as a spring or Easter color palette. This combination captures the essence of a sunny day in a field of flowers, perfect for creating quilts that are lively and full of springtime joy.
Children's Dentist Office
-
Colors: Lamb's Ear, Sky, Aquamarine, Meyer Lemon, Unicorn
Last, but certainly not least, we have the Children's Dentist Office palette. This one was hilariously named by someone watching the live session on Instagram, and we couldn't get over how perfect the name was! The mix of childish colors like
Sky,
Aquamarine,
Meyer Lemon, and
Unicorn with the dull gray of
Lamb's Ear perfectly captures the playful yet slightly sterile feel of a dentist office for children. The vibrant hues bring a sense of fun and whimsy, while the gray adds a touch of calm and neutrality. This palette is perfect for creating quilts that are both lively and comforting, ideal for a child's room or any project that needs a playful touch.
