As someone living up here in the PNW - April is a hard month. You so desperately want warm weather, sunshine, and to go outside but it's still mostly drab, cold, and rainy. The tulips have bloomed, you get teaser days with beautiful weather but it hurts that it's not consistent yet. Although, there are some amazing rainbows that remind you to really appreciate the little things in life! So April's Toad-Spo is all about creating monochromatic color palettes using the rainbow!
MOOD COLLAGE
With a quick Pinterest search, I was able to come across beautiful interior designs of each color in monochromatic format! I chose to stick with interior design as a theme- but trust me, there are plenty of other things to choose from! Pick a color and start pulling your favorite tones and values!
COLOR PALETTE
SEE THE PALETTE IN ACTION
Some patterns lend really well to being monochromatic (like the Welcome Home Quilt) and some patterns are a little trickier (like the Relativity Quilt)! The main key to a successful monochromatic quilt, or painting for that matter, is value! A great tip for this is to take a photo of the cover image of the pattern and turn it into black/white. Figure out which colors are the darkest and lightest and pick those out first! Next fill in your medium tones and a pop of color! I know I'm probably making it seem easier than it is - but with a little practice you'll have it down in no time!
